State Quota

In a state-run university, seats for individuals who meet the requirements like having the right qualifications and fulfilling basic requirements are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The seats in the “state quota” or” privately held universities” are filled based on the NEET PG exam results. When filling out the ranking sheet for admission to state quota seats, several factors are considered, category, subcategory, eligibility status (i.e., within/outside the cutoff marks), and a student’s top category rank based on their postgraduate entrance exam result.

Candidates can choose to apply for both All India Quota seats as well as state-specific seats. However, if applying in both categories, you must fill out separate forms and pay the relevant processing fee for each category.

NEET PG Seat Matrix

The NEET PG 2021 seat matrix indicates how many seats are available in each specialty for the candidate to choose from. The matrix will also let you know the number of seats allotted under each category of candidates. We recommend that students looking to apply for NEET PG in 2021 check out these numbers to get an idea of their competitiveness before picking a preference for the application form.

NETT PG Reservation Quota

Starting from 2017, reservation for seats in most Indian universities and colleges is based chiefly on caste. The recently announced policy says that 27% of reserved seats (50% of all seats) will be assigned to OBCs (Other Backward Castes) and 10% to EBCs (Elementary Backward Castes). In addition, there are also seats reserved for SC/ST/PwD candidates, which stand at 33%, 15.58%, and 3.5%, respectively.

There does not seem to be enough representation within this particular section of society when it comes to education. In addition, certain sections of the population (such as those belonging to the scheduled tribes or castes) are meritoriously shown preference over others. It has also been reported that seats will already be reserved for SC/ST/PwD candidates in AIQ in admission through a percentage of the All India Quota.

NEET PG Counselling 2021 – FAQs

1. What is NEET PG?

Answer- NEET PG stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Post Graduate. This entrance is conducted every year by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for those students who wish to pursue Post Graduate (PG) courses like MS or MD in government or private medical colleges in India.

2. Why is NEET PG compulsory?

Answer- It is compulsory because it is a qualifying exam to gain admission into medical colleges in India. Since all the applicants cannot get admission, NEET PG stands as a ranking/evaluation system. Therefore, NEET PG ensures and helps in preventing the admission of a large number of students. NEET PG is a common platform for the admission of students to all the medical colleges in the country. It is an essential step in the process of making medical education free from corruption.

It is a good platform for students as it increases competition and decreases the chances of favouritism by the concerned authorities. It is also an excellent platform for the students studying on the state board, as now there is no need to waste time studying for exams like AIPMT.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of NEET PG?

Answer- There are two types of NEET PG (Post Graduate) courses; one is NEET PG Diploma (PoGD), and the other is NEET PG Degree (PoGDS). NEET PG Diploma is available as a one-year course in 31 medical specialities. NEET PG Degree is for two-year courses in 77 medical specialities.

To get admission to NEET PG Diploma, you need to have a diploma in any field with 60% aggregate marks. In addition, you need to have a degree in any discipline with at least 55% aggregate marks for the NEET PG Degree. The NEET PG (Degree) program is where you get a postgraduate degree from a recognized university and a specialist degree from a postgraduate institute. It is equivalent to the MS/MD program in the USA.

In addition, the program is comparable to MBBS plus MS/MD in the USA and MCh in the UK. If you have the aptitude for specialization, it is a great opportunity. This program will help you become a specialist doctor and gain respect in society.

4. How do medical colleges evaluate the worth of PG applicants?

Answer- Medical colleges evaluate the worth of PG applicants mainly based on their performance in PG degree and MCI ranking of the Medical College. However, MCI listing is the only ranking that gets based on input parameters. Therefore, if a college receives a high input parameter score, it will get a good ranking. But it does not mean that every PG applicant from the same college will get a high score. It depends on the performance of the candidate too.

If the candidate has an excellent academic record, they can also get a good PG entrance examination. So, the final merit list will get prepared based on the candidate’s performance and the college’s input parameters.

5. What are the overall cutoffs for the general category and each state?

Answer- Generally, depending upon the competition, a score of 90 to 100 percentile is considered a good score, and a score of 60 to 80 percentile is deemed to be average. Please note that the cutoffs are different for every exam centre and year.

It is better to wait for the official cutoff to get declared by the testing agency.

6. What are the chances of a candidate getting admission to a medical college?

Answer- In India, the percentage of seats at private medical colleges is 60-70%. There are several private medical colleges in India. Admission to these colleges is through NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). NEET is a common entrance examination. This test is held for all states in India.

7. How is the NEET PG conducted?

Answer- NEET-PG is an online entrance exam to offer admission to the students who wish to study various postgraduate Doctor of Medicine, Master of Surgery and diploma courses, in government or private medical colleges in the country.
