The students can notice that Part C subjects have the highest subject-wise weightage followed by Part B and Part A. Also, most questions are asked on the subjects related to General Medicine and General Surgery. Therefore, the students should divide their schedule according to the weightage of subjects and parts. Around 17 questions are asked on the NEET PG Physiology subject. Therefore, they cannot ignore the topics covered in this subject at all.

Now, let’s check the important chapters or topics covered in each Physiology:

General Physiology

It is one of the important chapters in Physiology. One can devote extra time to this chapter as it is not covered in medicine. Topics like the basics of cellular structure, transport, and diffusion methods, and systems, etc. are some of the main highlights of this topic.

Nerve-Muscle Physiology

It is the most vital chapter in Physiology. It covers all the important concepts and basics related to muscle groups and the nervous system. Questions on types of fibres, generation of the action potential, etc. are frequently asked in the NEET 2022 exam.

Also, the students shouldn’t confuse this topic with neurophysiology. This chapter is limited to the study of nerve-muscle physiology and therefore, preparing the entire course of neurophysiology is not required.

Muscle spindle physiology, alpha and gamma fibers, etc. are the other important concepts that the students must cover in this subject.

In the topic of muscle spindle physiology, more weightage is allocated to the basic anatomical constituents and innervation.

Other essential topics are reciprocal inhibition, the plasticity of muscle fibers, knee jerk, withdrawal reflex, and size principle.

The students must devote extra time for the preparation of topics like Rheobase, co-activation fibers, dynamic and static fibers working, heat generation through the mechanism, and Chronaxie also need to be prepared thoroughly.

Respiratory System

The students must prepare topics like Spirometry, Altitude Physiology, Hypoxia, and Oxygen Dissociation Curve thoroughly. It is because these topics cover most of the questions that are asked from the Respiratory System chapter.

Endocrine

From the chapter Endocrine, the students need to give the most importance to reproductive physiology and hormones topics.

Renal

From the chapter Renal, the students need to give the most importance to Nephron Physiology.

Cardiovascular System

Topics like cardiac cycle and conduction physiology are the most essential ones in the Cardiovascular System chapter.

Exercise Physiology

It is another chapter that holds good weightage in the NEET PG Physiology section. The students need to study this entire chapter carefully because questions related to any topic can be asked. Also, the students tend to ignore this topic due to the relatively simple terms and concepts it includes. However, this is a big mistake as this chapter carries a high weightage in the exam.

Neuro Physiology

Important topics covered in NeuroPhysiology include concepts related to speech, learning, and memory. Comparison between EEF, EOG, EMG based on deep sleep, REM sleep, and normal awake stage needs to be studied by the students.

The students should note down that questions related to EEG have been asked in the last four NEET PG Physiology sections of exams. This concept comes under the topic ‘Sleep Study’. The below table will give them a proper understanding of the important topics of each section:

How to prepare for the NEET PG 2022 Exam in a limited time?

As the syllabus for the NEET PG 2022 exam is vast, the students should approach the preparation in the following manner:

Basics:

The students must start with the basics of all the subjects. It includes studying important definitions, concepts, and methods, and procedures involved in their practical use. The examiners like to test the familiarity of the candidates with the units and their normal values. Therefore, the students should note them down and revise them one hour before appearing in the exam.

Types of Questions:

The students must keep in mind that the pattern of questions asked in the NEET exam keeps changing. Right now, the questions related to clinical cases and clinical vignettes are being asked. Therefore, their preparation should focus especially on the clinical presentations and management procedures of various physiological conditions.

It is difficult to understand the concepts of Physiology without a proper hold on the diagrams and figures. Therefore, the students need to pay special attention to charts, diagrams, tables, and graphs. Several questions related to the images and graphs may be asked in the NEET PG 2022 exam. As a result, the students cannot afford to ignore them.

Highlighting information:

It would be difficult to make notes and keep track of all the important points in a matter of hours. Therefore, highlight all the essential information that you find while covering the concepts. The students must go through all the highlighted details before appearing for the exam.

Solving mock tests:

Mock tests give an idea about the kind of questions asked and the time limit within which one must complete the test. It also simulates a real experience of appearing in the exam and prepares the students mentally. However, the students must also review the mock tests to analyze the areas in which they are lagging. Reviewing mock tests will help them to avoid repeating silly errors and negative markings.

Revising

The students should revise one final time before appearing for the test. Regular revision is important for scoring high marks. However, if the students don’t have that much time, they can just go through the highlighted information and previous exam papers.

Solving exam papers

If the students want to prepare themselves for the NEET PG 2022 Exam quickly, they should go through the solved question papers instead of trying to solve them one by one. The previous question papers also give them an idea about the weightage of topics. Some questions get repeated in every paper and the students should be keen on going through them first.

Eliminating weaknesses

Every wrong answer will deduct one mark from the final score. Therefore, the students should also focus on their weaknesses and try to remove them. For example, while giving the mock tests, they should mark the wrong answers to highlight them. After that, they should go through their right answers or solutions and try to remember them. The next time they appear for a similar mock test, they should be able to eliminate their weaknesses.

Taking short breaks

Mental and physical fatigue will impact the performance of the students. They should try and avoid this by taking short breaks in between their preparation schedule. Avoid waking up till late at night as it might create health issues and a lack of focus while giving the exam. A proper night’s sleep will ensure that the students are well prepared and confident about cracking the exam.

Managing time

Managing time is an essential part of preparation. Therefore, the students must create a weekly and daily schedule to utilize the time well. The students can create a timetable on their phone or computer with important tasks and assignments for each day.

Avoid mental blocks

Few concepts that are hard to understand and memorize can impact your preparation. They might even create an unnecessary mental block that will further influence your preparation negatively. If students stumble upon such topics or concepts and are not able to cover them, they should take help from seniors or tutors. Or else, they can skip those topics and prepare them when they cover the remaining portion. It will provide them with the proper time and mental state to cover the harder topics.

Study in blocks

The students don’t have to cover the entire subject in one stretch. They can cover a few chapters or topics every day and focus on other subjects. It will not only eliminate the boredom due to redundancy, but they will also be able to cover a large number of topics and sections in a particular period.

Retaining Knowledge

The students gain knowledge after their first revision. However, their success in the exam depends on whether they retain the acquired knowledge or not. It is easy to forget the facts and concepts after reading. However, if the students stay in touch with them in one way or the other, it may help you to score well in the exams.

For example, they can join the Whatsapp and Telegram groups that give important updates and high-quality content every day. It will help them recollect the forgotten concepts easily.

If the students have only a few hours to prepare, they should devote the most time to learning. In the final couple of hours, they can focus on revising and appearing mock tests. The solved question papers might help such students a lot and highlighting important sections will also play a pivotal role in the success.

Conclusion

The concepts in Physiology can be learned and the students can be well prepared for the questions within 11 hours. However, their approach and initial preparedness or knowledge will be instrumental in determining whether they succeed in the exam or not.
