Centre decides to postpone NEET SS 2021 for 2 months

The Central has told the Supreme Court that it has decided to postpone the NEET SS Exam 2021 for 2 months. The exam will be now held on 10th and 11th January 2022.

The decision is taken to provide ample time for preparation under the revised scheme. Earlier, the exam was supposed to be held on 13th and 14th November 2021. The exam dates were announced on July 23 but the change in the exam pattern was announced on August 31 through the NEET SS information bulletin.

The last-minute changes can affect the students, therefore, a plea was filed in the top court by 41 PG qualified doctors. The plea challenged these abrupt last-minute changes contending that the same was done to favour general medicine candidates.

The Supreme Court made a hearing of the matter on September 27 pulled up the National Board of Examination (NBE), National Medical Commission (NMC) and Central government for making last-minute changes to the syllabus.

Changes made in the NEET SS Exam Pattern 2021

One of the major changes made in the NEET SS Exam Pattern is the absence of the super speciality section in the exam pattern. The list of the changes made in the NEET SS Exam Scheme are –

  • NEET SS 2021 will have 150 multiple-choice questions instead of 100.
  • There will be only one section in NEET SS 2021. Earlier, there used to be two sections, one broad speciality and another super speciality. Candidates used to select the super speciality of their choice.
  • The time duration of the exam is 150 minutes or 2.5 hours. Last year, the exam duration is 3.5 hours (1 hour 45 minutes for each section).
  • Now, the total marks of the NEET SS Paper are 600 marks.
